UNISON Education and Learning Opportunities  Is fairness at work important to you?

If so, you might be interested in finding out more about UNISON’s Equality Officer.

These new reps are workplace-based (like health and safety or union learning reps) and work with other representatives and UNISON branches to make our workplaces fairer by promoting respect and dignity at work.

The Equality Officer aims to:

  • Improving equality policies and agreements.
  • Finding out about good practice and sharing success stories.
  • Promoting equality in the workplace and the union.
  • Developing tools and techniques for raising equality issues.
  • Keeping updated with current legislation.
  • Working with other reps and the branch to ensure fairness and dignity in the workplace.
Why is this such an important role?

Equality is at the heart of everything UNISON does because:

  • Many of us face discrimination and unfairness at work
  • Equality matters to every one of us
  • Equality is not a minority issue or an optional extra.
Equality matters

Unison's equality scheme is a tool to help us make sure equality is promoted in everything we do. The equality strands in Unison's scheme are age, disability, gender, gender identity, race, religion/belief and sexual orientation - plus low paid members and other groups facing discrimination, for example migrant workers. It includes detailed equality action plans for every head office unit and region.

If you would like to talk to Unison's Equality Officer, then please talk to Maureen Morris, who works from Campbell Square, you can get her on 07795 254108
