East Midlands Regional Collaboration

We are grateful to the Force for funding a dedicated UNISON representative for this project. It has taken over 12 months to really get things moving, but there is now a new team in charge, headed by Andy Ford who used to be at the Home Office. It appears that we (the Region) are being looked at by the Home Office as the place where things are being done correctly and lots of plans are being put forward - with the rest of the country watching.

UNISON regionally is at present negotiating a protocol, which will hopefully smooth the working relationship with the Collaboration Team. However, it is important to realise that, by law, no proposed changes can actually take place within any individual Force, unless that Chief Constable and Police Authority, in consultation with UNISON and the Staff Associations, agrees.

With the aid of this website and our planned newsletter we will keep all members up to date with developments, as they happen.

2008 - Pay Claim

Local Government and other sectors have already started negotiations for this years pay increase. Staff in these sectors have been offered three year deals and rises between 2.2% and 3.3%. UNISON have rejected these offers and are asking members whether they would be willing to take sustained and escalating industrial action to get employers back to the negotiating table.

With this in mind, members of this branch have been asked to inform the Branch Secretary:

  1. Do they wish the claim for 2008 to be:
    a) a flat rate increase of either a percentage or monetary figure (e.g. 5 percent or £1000)
    b) an increase of a percentage or monetary figure, whichever is higher for the individual (e.g. the higher of 5 percent or £1000)

  2. Should the increase seek to address low pay?

  3. Do they support the principal of a three year deal?

4. What else should be included apart from basic pay?

Answers to Maurice by 20th May to be merged with the other 40 forces and submitted to employers on 10th June.
