Opportunities
UNISON Learning and Organising Services (LAOS) co-ordinate Trade Union
education and Life Long Learning opportunities for members. Courses
available to members range from basic skills courses to professional
qualifications.
UNISON courses are FREE and
any childcare/dependent care or travel costs incurred will also be met for
you. Many courses are accredited by the Open College Network and are
recognised by many training providers/colleges as equivalent to GCSE or A
Level standard.

Discounts are available for
members wanting to study various vocational courses via distance learning.
Courses include Accounting, Child Care and Early Years, GCSE/A Levels,
Law, Marketing and Sports and Recreation Management and are provided by
the Open University and National Extension College. The amount of discount
varies with each course. |
Bursaries and grants are also available to members studying Trade Union or
Labour Studies and Undergraduate Open University Courses being undertaken
at their own expense. Book grants are available to assist with the,
sometimes quite high, cost of books required for further and higher
education courses.Open
University Foundation Degree
Places are still available for the new Open University Foundation Degree
which the OU has launched to meet the current and future skill needs of
businesses and their employees. Until March 2011 employees, living and
working in the East Midlands will be eligible for a substantial fee
subsidy which can be as high as 100% depending on financial circumstances.
