Dear Members,
I am writing to introduce myself as the newly appointed UNISON Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Officer for the Northants Police
Branch.
UNISON do not hold any information on members’ sexual orientation so I
would encourage any LGBT members, or indeed prospective members, to make
yourselves known to me in order for me to support and represent your
needs. Any information shared will be in the strictest confidence.
The LGBT self organised groups in Unison work hard to promote and ensure a
fair deal for our LGBT members and fight against discrimination and
harassment.
There are Regional and National LGBT groups and representatives from these
groups sit on Regional and National Negotiating committees so your voice
will be heard. Black and Disabled LGBT members are also represented in
separate groups who deal with the specific issues they may face.
UNISON support and take part in many Pride events, hold a national
conference annually and produce various literature such as the newsletter,
“Out in UNISON”.
